The Introduction of a Renaissance Woman (or so my dad says)

Hello everyone!

Here's some fun facts about me.

(From left to right, my sister, my mom, and I at the GW Exotic Animal Park in Wynnewood, OK)

(My boyfriend, Ethan, and I at the OK State Fair 2017)

  • I am majoring in MIS, which is Management Information Systems. I really like this major because I can create things via coding. Growing up, I was super into computers and was on one all the time, so this major really stuck out to me.
  • I took my first intermediate Japanese class, which was really fun. I've always really enjoyed Japanese culture and their many festivals, so being able to learn the language is really fun to me. Japanese characters are fun to learn because it's basically like an art form.
  • In the fall of 2016, I studied abroad with OU in Arezzo and taught Italian high school students! Here's a picture of me with one of my classes.

  • Last semester I passed with all As and one B, which I honestly wasn't expecting because some of the classes were difficult for me. I also reached enough class hours to be considered a senior!
  • My favorite TV show is Game of Thrones, I've been watching it since 2012 and I'm kind of upset that we have to wait until 2019 for the last season! I'm hoping that the wait will be worth it.
  • All time favorite movie is hard. It's between Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or The Truman Show. Can you tell I like Jim Carrey?
  • Favorite music is also a hard choice. My favorite artist is Adele, hands down.
  • I would like to move to one of the coasts once I graduate next year. I am interested in IT and hope to work with an international company where I can travel to or possibly live in a different country. My preferred country would be Japan since I have a stable understanding of Japanese and technology is huge there.
  • I sadly don't have any pets 😕 I would like to adopt an older cat once I move into a bigger apartment/can afford it.
  • I have two tattoos, but would like more in the near future! One is on my collarbone that says "Yekce" (pronounced yik-chee). It is in my grandmother's handwriting and it means 'strong' in Muscogee (Mvskoke) Creek, which I am apart of the Muscogee Creek Nation. My other tattoo is along my spine!
(Me in Taos, New Mexico. August 2017)
  • I model part time with an agency in OKC, and also do small acting roles. I recently was a featured extra in a movie called "The Bygone"! They just finished filming in December and should be done editing by the summer sometime. If you're interested, here's a link to it! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6613958/

  1. Hi Cheyenne! It is really admirable that you are majoring in something that involves computers and coding. I am not very tech savy so I can’t even imagine doing it. That is so cool that you got to teach a class when you studied abroad in Arezzo. I have always wanted to study abroad but have never been able to fit it into my schedule. I’m in awe, you even model and act, so talented!

  2. Hi Cheyenne! I love the picture you shared of your family. I have been to the GW Exotic Animal Park as well, it is so fun! Also that is so cool that you model and act while being a student! You must have a really busy schedule. Best of luck to you this semester and I will check out the movie!

  3. It sounds like you will find some great connections between this class and your interests, Cheyenne! For example: Game of Thrones! People in India have been obsessing about the parallels between Game of Thrones and Mahabharata, and you will find lots of discussion about that online if you Google: game of thrones and mahabharata search results. There are also some powerful connections between the Hindu gods and Japan; here's the image I added mostly recently to the Indian images blog: Ganesha, Saraswati and Shiva in Japan ... and a video with some background about that: Hindu Gods in Japan ...
And wow, how fascinating that you have a Mvskoke tattoo. Many years ago, a student took this class whose #1 goal was to research the tattoo he was going to get. He ended up getting a Ganesha tattoo! :-)

  4. Hi Cheyenne! I think it is so cool that you have taken Japanese. I have taken Spanish. I think it is very important to know about other cultures and their language! I don't have any pets with me, sadly. I don't think it would have time to take care of it. I do have a fish but that does not really count. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and my other classmates this semester!!

  5. Hi Cheyenne!

I am also regrettably pet-less. However, I'm looking forward to the point when I can afford to get a dog.

I'm impressed and kind of jealous that you actually pursued studying Japanese. I've always wanted to learn it, but it wasn't offered at my high school and other things have ended up taking priority in college so far. I hope you continue with it and are able to work in Japan someday!

  6. Hey Cheyenne!
I love Japanese culture too! My whole family lived in Japan for three years before I was born. Although I never lived there, I get to hear all the cool stories from my siblings and parents. I especially love Studio Ghibli movies. I'm sure you've seen them, but if not I highly recommend Howl's Moving Castle and My Neighbor Totoro. I really hope you get to go to Japan when you graduate! You're so right that they love technology in Japan, I'm sure an IT gal like you would have no trouble finding a good job, especially since you speak the language (of computers and Japanese).

  7. Hi Cheyenne!
I think its cool that you've taken Japanese. My girlfriend took a few semesters of Japanese and lived in Korea for a few years so she is familiar with the culture as well. She's always cooking food that I've never had and its a lot of fun. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my all time favorite movies! I like the tattoo of the tree on your spine. I don't have any tattoos on my back yet, but most of my arms are covered as well as my chest/stomach. I hope you end up on the coast like you want, its gorgeous!

  8. Hi Cheyenne! Your major sounds really interesting. I too have always been interested in the Japanese culture. When I was a kid, I really wanted some kind of Japanese character tattooed on my shoulder blade. Congrats on last semester! My GPA has definitely been taking some hits here lately. I've actually seen The Truman Show and I really enjoyed it. It was a very interesting concept. I love to travel, but haven't made it to Asia yet. I think Japan would be an incredible place to visit or even live.

  9. Hi Cheyenne!
I really like the design of your blog and I think your use of personal photos makes your introduction page a lot more relatable and enjoyable to read! It’s really neat that you were able to study abroad and have the opportunity to really immerse yourself in someone else’s culture. I hope you have a great semester and I look forward to revisiting your blog throughout the course!

  10. Hey Cheyenne! I liked the set up of this blog post because it had bullet points that covered just the right amount of material about you! I also enjoyed the pictures. I too like Jim Carrey and think that he is quite the comedian. I also know how much everyone likes Game of Thrones and plan on one day finally watching them all. I probably will wait however for the entire show to be done because I'm not very patient with my TV. Good luck this semester!

  11. Hi Cheyenne! It was really cool to read about all of your different interests and various aspects of your life. I definitely think people will easily connect with you throughout the semester. I thought it was really interesting to see that you model and do some part-time features in films. I grew up acting and doing theatre, so that is definitely something I find intriguing! I'm gonna have to check out your link soon!

  12. Hi Cheyenne! I really like how you decided to share about yourself in bullet form. I enjoyed all of the pictures you included too! I helped me put together a full picture about what you are like. The design of your blog is awesome! It is making me want to go to my blog and edit what it looks like. I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future!

  13. Hey Cheyenne! Your introduction was so cool! I didn't write as much detail on my own post (but I wish I did). I was actually in Japan last year for vacation! If you ever get time, you should definitely visit. It also sounds like you are passionate about your major. That is so nice that you know what you are good at. I am just now starting to figure that out. haha

  14. Hi Cheyenne!

The wait for the next season of Game of Thrones is probably going to kill me... I'm using this time to try and get as many of my friends and family members as addicted to the show as I am. They have a year to catch up, and I want to engage in that juice GOT gossip!

I only have one tattoo, but I want more too! It's a weird thrill, getting one, and I love decorating my body with things that are meaningful to me.

I absolutely adore Jim Carey too, except... well... my fascination with him started as a child, and I have seen his comedy acts a BILLION times. I got Dumb and Dumber as gifts for my birthday when I was, at most, 7 years old. He's an amazing actor, comedy genre or not.

  15. Hey Cheyanne. The feeling of getting your code to work properly is one of the best. I also really enjoy Japanese culture, and I hope your can find an enjoyable job there after you graduate next year. Teaching is Arezzo looked like a great time. I hope your semester goes great and I look forward to reading some of your work.

  16. Hi Cheyenne,
Your life seems so full and fun. I am so bad with computers so you being able to understand coding so is awesome, I can barely use word haha. I love your tattoos, I have been a scaredy-cat. Did it hurt a lot?? Also congrats on being a senior it does feel awesome. I hope that you get everything you are wanting. I love the beach and hope that you get to move close to one!

  17. Hey Cheyenne! I haven't seen you in forever it seems like. I don't know if you remember me or not but we took Creek together a few semesters back. How are you!? I hope your adventure studying abroad was a nice get away and that you learned a lot. It was also cool to find out that you have interest in the Japanese culture. My brother in law is minoring in Japanese and is actually hopefully going to move to Japan next year for an internship where he will be teaching English in Japanese schools. I hope this semester is treating you well!

  18. Hey Cheyenne. I may not agree with Adele, but I can get on board with Eternal Sunshine. It’s a pretty underrated movie, but that doesn’t stop me from liking it. Japan is the one country I want to go to above all others, but I build robots in my free time, so I might be a little biased about the world’s tech capital. It’s still good to see that other people want to go their as well. Best of luck to you in MIS.

  19. Hey Cheyenne!

I am a MIS major too and I really like to do coding and nothing else. I hope you’re having fun with MIS and travelling as well. I love to travel but working and paying the college comes in and that sucks. It nice that you like to do acting and Japan is a nice country there are so many things I watch in Japanese if you heard of Anime nice way to learn language and that is how I learned Japanese.

  20. Hey Cheyenne , I really liked your intro and being in this class , I have seen a lot of MIS majors . I really never knew what it was until one of our classmates explained it. but I wish I could travel just like you but I know one day I will. Going to Japan might be fun and aw your and your boyfriend are really cute.

  21. Hi Cheyenne, that's cool that you're and MIS major! I took an MIS course my sophomore year and thought that it was super interesting. There is so much that you can do with computers. Also super cool that you're learning Japanese, what an awesome and unique language to know in the US! I've also seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, super crazy interesting movie that I liked a lot! Good luck on the rest of school!

  22. Nice to meet you Cheyenne!
Your life seems to be be going exactly how you would like it! I found it really hard to decide which major to choose because I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my life. It's nice to see you know who you are and what you want out of this life. Also love your comment wall picture.

  23. Hey Cheyenne! I have really enjoyed getting to know you through your introduction! You seem like you have already experienced so much and that you really do just love life. That is so cool that you were able to spend a semester learning and teaching in Arezzo. I also really like the idea of having a tattoo in your grandmother’s handwriting. That really gives it a lot of meaning.

  24. Hey Cheyenne!
I enjoyed reading your introduction and getting to hear about some of your adventures, you seem like you're living your life to the fullest which is always good to see! I think you're the first person I know studying Japanese, that's super cool and opens a lot of doors, especially in the technology field! I also want to end up on a coast, so I understand where you're coming from there!

  25. Hey there, Cheynne!
I think it is awesome that you have a genuine interest in what you are studying! My friend is an MIS major, and I know how challenging the coursework can be. You have had a lot of cool life experiences! I always wanted to study abroad. However, it was never possible for me to do this. I hope the rest of your semester is great!

  26. Hi, Cheyenne! Thanks for sharing part of your story with us! I think it is SO cool that you are learning Japanese…I can not imagine how difficult it is. Props to you for sure! I got to go to Arezzo back in 2015 and it was SUCH an amazing experience, so I am jealous that you were there more recently. I am a member of the Apache Tribe so I think it is awesome that you have a tattoo in your ancestors language. Best of luck this semester!

  27. Hi Cheyenne, it is nice to meet you! MIS sounds like a fun and interesting major, and I have a couple of friends who are majoring in it and love it as well. It is refreshing to hear that you love the Japanese culture; there are many Asian countries with such fascinating culture and people that I wish people were interested in. Wow, I love Arezzo! I got to visit Arezzo during the summer of 2016 and I get to go back this upcoming summer as an intern! I must agree with you on your love for Adele - she has such a unique voice and is also one of my favorite artist. Best of luck this semester and wishing you all the best in your future endeavors! :)

  28. Hey Cheyenne! I just want to start by saying that I love your tattoo on your back! I have actually been thinking about getting one similar to that. I have the outline of Oklahoma on my ankle (but that took 2 years for me to work up the nerve to get). How did you like Italy? I have some friends that have went on that program as well.

  29. Hey Cheyenne,
I love your tattoos! I have 4 myself and they are addicting. I especially like your collarbone one. I am Creek too and that is such a cool way to honor your grandma and your heritage. I also want to move to the coast when I graduate. I have lived in Oklahoma my whole life and I feel like it is time to move on.

  30. Hi Cheyenne,
I think its awesome that you both got to study abroad, and teach in Italy. I also like how you laid out this introduction. It provides a great glimpse at your life, and was fun to read. I have taken some MIS courses, and though I did alright in them, I did not particularly enjoy them. It is pretty cool stuff to work with at times in my opinion.

  31. Hi Cheyenne! It is really great to meet you! I really liked your introduction. I have several friends who are MIS majors and will be graduating soon. It is really cool that you are a model and have been an extra in a movie. I don't think many people can put that on their resumes. I love your tattoos, and how you incorporated your heritage into one of them.

  32. Hi Cheyenne! It is really impressive that you are into coding. I took a class once in high school and that class was a struggle all year. I definitely respect you for that. You seem like you have a pretty solid plan for after college! I liked how you set up your introduction post as facts about you. This made it very easy to read! NIce meeting you and good luck this semester.

  33. Hey Cheyenne! I think it's so great that you are looking to a future in IT. You remind me a lot of my cousin who went to Japan for 2 years to teach English, met his wife, and now they live in California and he works for Facebook. I wish you luck going into your last year of college. It's a scary but such an exciting time!

  34. Hey Cheyenne!

I am an accounting major so who knows I might see you around Price! That's awesome that you have been able to go and study abroad! I am looking forward to doing that new spring. I am also a huge Game of Thrones fan! I haven't had nearly enough time to reread the books and watch all the seasons. Summer time is for catching up, right? Good luck on the rest of your semester! It was great learning more about the author behind some of the stories I have read!

  35. Hey, Cheyenne! Ok the first thing I thought when I saw this post was OMG IT’S LIL SEBASTIAN!! Which if you’ve never seen Parks and Recreation...just ignore that outburst. I think it’s so cool you’re learning Japanese. I’m kind of jealous, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do myself but it’s quite daunting. I know it’s cliche but I love anime and I usually have to watch dub because it’s hard to really get immersed into the story when I’m reading the whole time.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is absolutely one of my favorites too!

    Nice to meet you :)

  36. Hello Cheyenne. I sort of regret not minoring in MIS. There is so much I want to learn with coding that could help me in marketing. I have always wanted to go to the exotic animal park. Wow! Japanese. That is awesome. I did not know we offered that at OU, but it makes sense since we have an international studies major. I truly enjoyed reading about you. You have led a very interesting life so far. I look forward to reading your stories.

  37. Hi Cheyenne. I also really like computers and coding, though I'm just getting a CS minor. It's so rewarding to run a program and have it work flawlessly for the first time. I'm also a big Jim Carrey fan, but I have to say my favorite has to be Dumb and Dumber. The Truman Show was a close second though

  38. Nice to meet you Cheyenne! I think it is so cool that you taught a class while in Arezzo! Do students who study abroad usually do this?? That is so amazing. I also enjoy Japanese culture, but I always figured learning Japanese would be too hard so I never even considered it. Props to you! And it really is sad that you don't have pets! Hopefully one day you will get one or two!

  39. Hi Cheyenne! I am so jealous that you had the chance to study abroad with OU in Arezzo. It would have been my ideal place to go, but sadly, it has never fit in with my schedule. I am glad that you enjoy the coding aspect of the MIS degree. Computers and technology are wonderful tools that make our lives easier!

  40. Hey Cheyenne,
It's pretty cool you were able to go abroad to Arezzo. It must have been quite the experience to teach over there as well. It's cool that you enjoy the coding in MIS, I once took a computer course and we just spent the whole course learning macro's in Excel and I sucked at it. Only a few weeks left of school, best of luck the rest of this semester.
