Reading Notes: PDE Ramayana Part C (Sampati and Jatayu)

Sampati and Jatayu

In this story the monkeys who traveled south to look for Sita stumble upon the wingless bird Sampati. He tells the story of how he lost his wings when trying to protect his brother from the scorching sun. The saint Nishakara tells him that he will surely one day regain flight and be happy again after he does a noble deed for someone, which Sampati believes that is helping Rama find Sita. I really liked this story because Sampati does not see any point in living if he cannot fly. However, Nishakara gives him hope that he will one day fly again. In life, there are times where I have felt like giving up because I do not see a point in trying any more, but if I keep trying and pushing on things usually get better and life will be good again. This story gives encouragement to keep pushing past life's obstacles and focus on helping others and finding other ways to be happy! When bad things happen it can feel like the end of the world, especially to younger people.
