I didn't realize how many stories and epics there are! As a read through them I noticed similarities to other stories I have heard.

I really like the story in the Ramayana about The Golden Deer. The poem is really well written with plenty of imagery, and the description of the deer is interesting because it is golden with sapphire antlers. I'm really into poetry so this was really fun to read! I didn't expect poetry to be apart of the stories.

Another story I like is in the Mahabharata and is called The House of Fire. In this story there is an evil man named Purochana who plans to set fire to the palace that Kunti and the Pandavas are living in for Prince Duryodhana and King Dhritarashtra. Prince Vidura warned Prince Yudhishthira about this plan, and Vidura had a miner dig a tunnel from the palace to the forest. The night that the palace went up in flames, Kunti and the Pandavas fled through the tunnel to the other side. What I thought was interesting about this story, is that a family of 5 was caught in the fire and was thought to be Kunti and the Pandavas, so the evil Prince and King thought their plan had succeeded. In my mind, I take this as some people suffer in place of other's good fortune.

Out of all of the stories I read, my favorite one is from the Mahabharata called The Afterlife. Yudhishthira is taken to eternal bliss, which is heaven, but he asks to be taken to hell because he feels wrong to be without his brothers and wife Draupadi. When he got to hell, he decided to stay because he wanted to comfort them. Once he made this wish, hell vanished and after he bathed in sacred waters he became a celestial being and was surrounded by his brothers and wife once more in heaven. I really liked this story because it had a happy ending and a good message. To me, this story was saying to be selfless and kind to others even if they may have not been kind, because it will result in blessings.
