Topic Brainstorm

Topic 1 Surya

I'm really interested in gods and goddesses, and have been ever since I was younger. I picked Surya because he is the Sun God and I liked the story Surya: How the Sun God Was Tamed. I don't really know much about him, other than he casts a very bright light that causes his wife Sanjna to look away, so he makes her birth Yama who is the god of Death. I want to read more stories about him and his children, especially Yama. I think I might create a story about him and his children! For some more basic information about him, I looked at this site

Topic 2 Ganga

Ganga is the goddess of the Ganges River. I really liked the story of her coming down from the heavens to cleanse the people and purify the ashes of King Sagara's 60,000 sons. I've never heard of Ganga, but I really like she represents purification. After reading her story, I would like to write a modern story about her coming down in floods or maybe as rain to represent her cleansing humanity and the earth. I would like to learn why she holds a jar of jewels in one hand and a lotus flower in the other. Reading this site and this site helped me gain some more information on her!

Topic 3 Saraswati

Saraswati is the Goddess of Wisdom. As a kid, I was in a Greek mythology play and I played Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, so I had to pick Saraswati and learn more about her! I like that she was born through meditation and also has great knowledge of arts and music. I would like to learn why she rides a swan. My favorite quote from her is "All I offer must be used to elevate the spirit, not indulge the senses." I found this from this site where I also learned some more information on her in general. I would like to maybe take a modern take on her story as well, and retell her birth story of coming out from a meditation or maybe from a prayer.

Topic 4 Tales of Shiva

I've heard people talk about Shiva, but I don't really know much about him. He is an interesting god, because he is seen as a creator and a destroyer. He also is tied in with Ganga's story, so I may recreate a modernized story with Shiva and Ganga about Ganga coming to earth to cleanse. I want to read a lot of stories about Shiva since he is a very important god. I think reading about his stories will help me get more ideas on what to write for the rest of the other stories too. This site helped me get more information on Shiva and also tells the story of the Ganges River.
